Global Universal Announces Canadian Broadcast Deal for American Sunset

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Los Angeles, CA(WORLD STOCK WIRE) – July 06, 2010 –  Global Entertainment Holdings, Inc. a publicly traded entertainment Company (OTCBB: GBHL), and its Canadian affiliate, Global Universal Pictures (“Global Pictures”), announced that it recently signed a Canadian broadcast deal that will allow Canwest Television Limited Partnership (“Canwest”, successor in interest to Canwest Media, Inc.) to broadcast American Sunset exclusively in Canada. The sale was arranged through Kaleidoscope Entertainment, Inc., based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as the Canadian distributor for American Sunset.

GBHL CEO, Gary Rasmussen said “We are pleased to announce this broadcast arrangement with Canwest as it marks the first firm commitment for the film.  American Sunset had an exclusive screening at the Palais during the Cannes International Film Festival this past May and had audiences on the edge of their seats as they experienced the plot twists and turns of this exciting thriller! This prestigious exposure resulted in many potential sales opportunities worldwide for American Sunset, which our sales subsidiary Global Universal Film Group is actively following up on.”  Mr. Rasmussen also stated “making the cover of the Cannes Market News on May 16 during the height of the Cannes festival garnished considerable international attention for American Sunset.  Since this film is a product of Canada, and the late Corey Haim’s birthplace, it is truly fitting that we commence our subsequent sales efforts with a country wide broadcast for all Canadians to see.”

American Sunset starring the late Corey Haim and Frank Molina was directed by Michael Masucci and was also featured at the Canadian Pavilion at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival.  Eric A. Leffler, executive producer, commented, “This was Corey Haim’s last film and we’re all delighted that his abilities as an adult lead actor were finally recognized during the exclusive screening of American Sunset at the Cannes festival. Audiences in France identified with Corey’s character and the harrowing experiences his character underwent, all skillfully portrayed by Corey as a matured actor.  Hopefully soon, audiences worldwide will have the opportunity to enjoy his work and appreciate his special talent.”

During the Cannes International Film Festival, producer Jackelyn Giroux commented, “Myself, as well as the entire cast and crew, were deeply saddened by his untimely passing. Corey dubbed himself the ‘Comeback Kid’.  Although he is gone, we are pleased that Canadians will have the first opportunity to enjoy Corey’s comeback efforts and see his great performance in this exciting film.”… READ MORE

Corey Haim interviewed on ET Canada for American Sunset

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

This was also covered the day of release in the Daily Gleaner (Article copy below).

A locally shot movie is getting major attention tonight.

Entertainment Tonight Canada is to air clips from its interviews with actors Corey Haim and Frank Molina, who star in the film American Sunset, as well as with producer Jackie Giroux. The interviews took place in Los Angeles on July 14.

Parts of the movie were shot in Fredericton and Kings Landing.

American Sunset is described by the producers as a “suspense-filled turnstile” about a man battling his emotional demons amidst his wife’s abduction.

Haim plays Tom, an artist on the edge as the police are unable to help find his wife Samantha, played by Angela Cullins. He hires an ex-soldier back from Iraq, Arturo, played by Molina to help.

The film was shot by Global Universal Inc., which last year completed principal photography in the Fredericton region on a film entitled Blue Seduction, starring Billy Zane and Estelle Warren.

Giroux, who’s from New Brunswick, produced both films. She has expressed a desire to continue working here.

“Being from New Brunswick, I know the potential to establish a vibrant presence is here and offers a great source of revenue for this province” she said.

American Sunset will be released this fall on Pay TV, cable or DVD.

Bernard Robichaud – A rebel with a cause

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

bernie-robichaud-tpb-sm1You know what it’s like when you run into an athlete in public and in street clothes they look different “” that headhunting linebacker for the TiCats looks like an accountant and is not at all like you imagine him to be. The same thing goes for a lot of celebrities, politicians, and actors. But this is definitely not the case should you have a chance encounter with ‘Cyrus’ of the Trailer Park Boys. He looks the part almost all the time “” minus of course, the leather, guns, girls on each arm and making life hell for the TPB gang.

At 6?1?, 205 pounds, Bernie Robichaud is intimidating enough in casual attire, and creates space by just being there. He carries himself with a carriage of confidence and coolness that comes with the knowledge and experience of handling a given situation. It’s easy to see how he was cast as the character Cyrus just by conversing with him.

He can articulate with the best of them but to emphasize a point he reverts to his street roots and is apt to conclude a discussion on complicated regulations by saying “Bullshit! That’s crap and you know it!”

He listens intently to what he’s being asked, seems to be measuring the question’s worth before answering and stares directly with an intensity that is almost a glare. You get the feeling that if he wasn’t working a lot as Cyrus on TPB and life had turned just a bit he could have ended up exactly the same, only as the real deal.

So the secret to success is to develop a character based on your life, pitch it to a hit TV show and you’re in, right? Wrong! Robichaud’s road to obtaining recognition is so unorthodox it’s hard to put any sort of label on. The first indication of this is the fact he took up acting at the age of 25 after spending a transient, troubled adolescence to say the least…. READ MORE

American Sunset, shot in the Moncton and Fredericton area, is a suspense-filled turnstile of emotional demons engulfing one man’s obsession to be in the real moment amidst his wife’s abduction by a man he believes is a crazed kidnapper. A second major movie to be filmed in Moncton in as many years is wrapping up production downtown.

The film, American Sunset, is scheduled for release this summer. The popular teen movie Growing Op, released last year, was also filmed in Moncton.

The film is produced by Global Universal Inc. out of Hollywood, but most of the 40-person cast and crew is from New Brunswick.

“It’s been really great for me,” said Nicky Destres, production manager and Moncton native. “It’s been giving me the opportunity to prove myself in the New Brunswick market.”

This is Destres’ first time as a production manager for a feature film.

“New Brunswick film is underrated, but I’m hoping this film will change things,” Destres said.
